Recreation

I like recreation because it is fun, relaxing, and healthy. It is a great way to relieve stress and enjoy the outdoors. Sports provide an outlet for aggression and anger that you wouldn't be able to get out in any other acceptable form. It is hard to watch the transition from abundant recreational activities to very little. Modern day kids don't enjoy recreational activities the same way it used to be prized. Kids would rather play video games and watch tv. Some activities I want to do this month are swimming, bike rides, hikes, and rock climbing.

Leisure

Just like the meditation we're about to experience in 30 minutes, leisure is a necessary stress reliever. Taking the time to relax, nap, shower, or just plain unwind after any sort of stressful or recreational activity. This is not to say that recreational activities are mentally stressful, but instead physical. When we become physically exhausted it takes a toll on our mental capabilities and in turns relates itself to stress. Take the time to give yourself leisure after any stressful activity and watch the stress melt away!

Recreation

Recreational Activities were more popular among those back in the 50's and 60's. They would go out and experience the outdoors because they didn't have the TV's and video games to entice them to stay indoors. I think recreation is one of the best ways to release your anxiety and build a fresh attitude. Three things that I can do this month are go on a hike up to table rock, go on a long bike ride (40 miles), and do some meditation to really get my mind focused on school among other things.

Recreation and Leisure

I think that it is a great idea to get outdoor recreation involved in leisure time. Rather than wasting your day on the couch being a bum, why not go exploring outside and experience the beauty of nature. You don't have to kill yourself by hiking 20 miles at a 90 degree angle, but even a simple still taking in the fresh air will do you good!

Now that the weather is starting to get better I plan to take bike rides whenever it is sunny out. Most of my classes are done by mid-afternoon, so a post-class bike ride before homework will be a great refresher! I also hope to use my Bogus pass a view more times this season before all the snow melts!

Bike rides:        Mon, Wed, Fri, 1:30 - 2:30
Sophie, Karly, Hailey, anyone else done with class

Snowboarding: Wed 4:30 - 10:00, Sat/Sun full day
Austin, Jake, Conor, Raymond, anyone else wanting to go up

Gym time:          running, weight lifting, classes (cycling, zumba, P90X)
                           Mon 4:30 - 7:00, Tues 6:00 - 7:30, Thurs 5:00 - 7:00
                           Sophie, Hailey, Annaliese

Also, I tried bouldering at Table Rock last weekend so hopefully I can do that some more too!

Leisure and a Little Recreation

Everyone has something they love to do, whether it's a sport, job, or working out. If you don't like doing anything then why have that job or do any of those things. you need to truly like something in order for you to like it. Playing basketball isn't something I like doing, but overtime, practicing and just doing it with friends has made me enjoy it and enjoy my time with the people that I like spending time with.

Recreation

Recreation is something that everyone should encompass into their life.  I agreed with the fact that it talks about how exercise helps with stress and I really enjoyed the article.

If the weather holds up, I plan on going on a lot of bike rides with whoever is down to go!

Go to the gym and play racquetball with Austin (Im calling you out Austin)

Hike Tablerock with my roomies

Importance of Leisure and Recreation for Health

I liked this article, it is a lot easier to exercise when you enjoy what you are doing, and the benefits of physical activity are evident. I plan on going to the pool at the recreation center on wednesday evening with my roommates, going on a hike this Saturday with My friend Ashley, and playing volleyball at this weeks game.

Leisure

Three recreational activities I will be doing this week are hikes and bowling. I am really excited for the two hikes this week. I do not know exactly when I will be doing them, but I know they will be during this week. One of the hikes will be with most of the LLC-my girls, plus Austin and Connor. We will be going to Lucky Peak and walk the entire four miles to the top. Last week when we went to Lucky Peak we only made it to the half way point, and are determined to reach the top. Another hike I will be doing is with Annaliese at Table Rock. We are going to run to table rock then walking to the side of the hill, and sprinting the vertical side of the hill. A more leisure activity I will be doing this weekend is bowling with most of the LLC girls. We are celebrating Kelsey and Annie's 19th birthday at the bowling ally. This will be a very exciting and active week.

Leisure

I thought this article was really reassuring. I think it's important to love what you do and not dread having to exercise.

1. Hike Lucky Peak - Any buddy who's down
2. Go to the Hot Springs - my gals
3. Bowl at a bowling alley - Kelsey Ray

Adaptive Sports

The sport I chose is adaptive waterskiing. There are many different ways to do this, just depending on your disability. Sometimes the individual is seated and sometimes, if able they can stand. Almost anyone can do this but often the equipment can be expensive.

Leisure and Recreation

I loved reading this article, I truly believe that the best medicine is fresh air and laughter, similar to the article's illustration of recreational therapy. It's important to be active and keep the endorphins flowing. I love to be active with friends and make new memories.

1. Hike Lucky Peak (This weekend) With-Annie, Kenzie, Annaliese, Conner and Austin.
2. Watch Light in the Piazza (This weekend)-Katelyn and Evan.
3. Rollerblade (This coming weekend) With-Annie, Kenzie, Kelli, Kristina, Conner, Austin, Mark, John, and Jake.

Adaptive Sport

Ive chosen to do my topic on runners who have lost a limb.  It is not uncommon to see someone with a prosthetic leg running in today's day and age.  There are even specific prosthetics made to help make running much more natural for these athletes.  I have already found a few articles to help me take a deeper look into the sport.

Leisure and Rec

Great article, means a lot to me to get out and exercise since I've been doing it my whole life.
Three activities I plan on doing this month:
1) Tandem bicycle ride (WITH MY BEST FRIEND ANDREW SOUZA)
2) Street basketball (with ma homiez back home in Oaktown)
3) Weight lifting (with my bro-beans)

Adaptive Sports

The adaptive sport topic I've chosen to research on is quad rugby, or wheelchair rugby.  It is played with a volleyball and on a basketball size court.  It is considered a full contact sport.  In my paper I will I'll go into more details on the rules and the history of this sport. http://www.usqra.org/the_game

Leisure and Recreation

I think this article says a lot. It is very important to be active, and to like the activities that you are doing. I also really liked the part about recreational therapy. I have been thinking about switching my major so I could do something like that in the future.

Three things I will do this month:

1. Hike around in the foothills (During this coming week)-- Annie, Kelli, Kenzie, and Kelsey.
2. Bike on greenbelt and in the foothills (On the weekends)-- Jake, Conor, Kelli, and Austin.
3. Hopefully have my first experience backpacking (Towards the end of March)-- Annie and Kelli

Adaptive Sports

For my essay, I thought of a few things that I could write about. One thing that stuck out was wheelchair basketball. We have played in it ourselves, and have seen others play many times so I thought it would be a good topic to learn more about.

Intro:
Explain what it is, and how it works.

Body 1:
History of wheelchair basketball

Body 2:
Discuss the National Wheelchair Basketball Association

Body 3:
Talk about how to get involved and play, or volunteer.

Conclusion:
Sum up intro and three body paragraphs.

March 11th leisure and recreation

I really enjoyed the article. I know that whenever I spend a considerable amount of time outside of the dorms I feel more relaxed and confident in unrelated things like my schoolwork. I think that switching my leisure time activities from GTA to something a little more active could really benefit me.

My ideas for leisure activities:

1. Hike Lucky Peak (Anyone who wants to join) This Saturday afternoon
2. Bike rides down the greenbelt (Anyone who wants to join) next weekend
3. Toss a frisbee in the park (The people on the ultimate Frisbee team) Whenever

Adaptive sports essay idea

My idea for an adaptive sport to research was adapted skiing. Skiers sit on a chair that has a single ski instead of legs. In their hands they hold 2 smaller skis rather than poles. I remember watching the para-Olympics a couple years ago and seeing these guys skiing the snowboard cross track on their adapted skis. In my essay I plan to explore the history of the sport, the equipment, and the current events that involve this kind of skiing.

Adaptive Recreation

Sophie Shearer

For my research paper on adaptive recreation I chose to write about adaptive skiing. My paper will look something like this.

      Intro:
In the introduction I will introduce my audience to adaptive recreation and introduce the topic of adaptive skiing. I will try to get them interested in learning more about it.

      Body 1:
In this first body paragraph I will talk about the background of adaptive recreation.

      Body 2:
In this section I will explain the history of adaptive skiing, I will discuss when it came about, who first invented it, and its level of popularity.

      Body 3:
In this section I will discuss the equipment needed and how the sport is preformed.

      Body 4:
In this section I will talk all about the participants of the sport and what adaptive skiing means to them.

      Conclusion:
In this last section I will end my paper with a brief summary and give the audience a few last points to think about in regards to adaptive recreation.

Essay Subject

I decided to write my essay on Modified Volleyball. Modified volleyball includes Stand Up Volleyball, Sitting Volleyball, and Walleyball. Each type of Modified Volleyball caters to different individuals with different disabilities. For example, Sitting Volleyball was designed for double amputees. In this essay I hope to describe what equipment is needed for each game, what the rules are and who is able to participate in Modified Volleyball.
