March Madness
I agree that March Madness has a huge economical impact on America due to workers lack of productivity during the tournament. Of course March Madness is an exciting time in America, it is another chance for the different corners of the country to be connected through sports. I think that watching the tournament in regulated times would even be great for coworkers to bond and ultimately lead to higher morale in the office, however if the games really are detracting that much money from American businesses, the tournament starts to seem very insignificant. Our nation is on the brink of economical disaster if we are not already there. Therefore, I don't think that employees should really be wasting time watching basketball games at the office when all the games are available to stream whenever you want on the internet. According to the Washington Post online, "March Madness costs $1.2 billion for every unproductive hour". Those are huge numbers of revenue being lost. I know that the tournament is a very exciting time for people to connect and get excited over the same things, however there is a time and place for everything. I think workers could still find time to trash talk each other's brackets and watch games on breaks or during lunch, rather than taking time off work to lose money while watching tv.
